Here at St Paul's we welcome the opportunity to come close to local people, and those with a connection to St Paul's, at some of the crucial moments in life.
Christenings/Baptisms
We are pleased to baptise people of all ages here at St Paul's, as a sign of God's welcome and blessing.
Baptisms take place during the St Pauls @ 4 service - which is on Sunday at 4pm - normally on the last Sunday of the month.
We would meet with you to talk through what is involved, but we believe God wants to weclome people, not set up hoops to jump through. In particular, we are often asked if we are prepared to baptise a child whose mum is fifteen, or whose dad isn't around, or whose parents aren't married, or a whole host of other things. The answer is simple - this is about God and the child, not some moral judgements about the parents. If you want God to be involved in your child's life, talk to us about baptism.
Weddings
We love weddings. St Paul's church makes a great venue for your wedding, but more than that we believe that God wishes to be part of your wedding, and to support you in your married life together. There is lots of useful information about church weddings here, but three frequently asked questions:
Does it cost a lot to be married in church?
No. The basic cost including all the planning and legalities is normally about £350 - £400, for which you and your familiy and friends will get a great occasion - fun, joyful but with the right amount of seriousness too.
Do I have to attend church regularly? What if one of us is Catholic?
Anyone who lives in St Paul's parish, or who has a connection with church (maybe your parents were married here, or you were baptised here?) can get married here. The church is here for the people of Widnes, its not a club.
Does it take ages to organise?
No. You can actually organise a wedding in church in about 5-6 weeks. Of course people often book 12-18 months ahead, but you don't need to.
Funerals
Its a great privilege, even if sometimes a great sorrow, to conduct funerals. Initial contact tends to be made via funderal directors, but we intend to always say yes to a request to conduct a funeral of someone who lived in St Paul's parish, or had a connection to the church. This is true if the funeral is here in church, or just at the chapel in Widnes Cemetary/Crematorium.
